Cat Trap

Post by necro »

Well...I'll tell you about my side project because it doesn't work in debbuger :( . The game has you as a mouse, and cats, snakes (they dont work very well right know ): ) and other mouse eating animals. You are a rat and as such, killing cats/spiders/snakes is acomplished by trapping them in blocks (when trapped on four sides they die.) Im sorry I can't post screens, but here is my current progress:

-Full collision detection
-Pushable blocks
-Moving cats that can kill you intellegenty when your in their field of vesion
-Snakes that are buggy and are supposed to follow walls
-the cat and the snake can die
-sprite graphics (currently using xLib)

It sounds good. Can you paste the source? (http://www.rafb.net/paste/) Or maybe host the .8xp or /zip file somewhere?

It looks like an old game that came with windows 95 :) The one where you trapped all the cats and ate the cheese and pushed blocks around. You had to do it in a time limit too.

Actually, it IS based on that windows 95 game, he said at EPS forum. Also, it uses my DI routine :D

The Win95 game came with the "Best of Entertainment" pack and was called "Rodent's Revenge".

Is will be the old game as best I can make it in basic, but with sevral new enemy types such as a snake that follows around the walls and a spider that can shoot a web...I'm not sure how many cats/snakes/ect I can support at the same time (likely 2...maybe 3) as the old game could have multiple enemies at the same time.

Maybe 3 enemies at time, but since it's mostly a puzzle game it should need to be incredibly fast. With Omnicalc you can have at least 5 monsters, but it add 16 kb of archive to your game size

And those sprite are great! The blocks are looking a bit 3D-ish

Yeah, seriously, those sprites are great. Except the rat. It kinda looks like a line with a tail. Is there a way to make it look more rat-ish? Other than that, this game sounds really good! :)
