Post by Spooner »

I was just wondering when where there be a new calc. I looked on the internet and could not find anything. I have to use a 83+/84+ silver/black. When will there be a new one in this catagory. Just wonderin let me know.

The eternal question. Well, depite a lot of speculation in the TI game community; I think only TI has the answer to that question. I've been keeping my ear to the ground and browsing their corporate site for hints, but so far, no word.

From a practical sense, they shouldn't release another one until there's a demand to replace part of their (extensive) line of existing models. But if I had to guess, I'd say the next one will be an EZ-Spot version (aka: "anti-theft calc") of the TI-84+. If it doesn't exist already.
My diet consists of nails, code-stealers, and HP fans.

nice kevin!

Well I know TI came out with a yellow bottomed I think 83+ or 84+ version to make it easy to spot and recognizable as a "school" type of calc. That is somewhat anti-theft!

Kevin has kinda a point though, the 83+s kinda got a new stroke of life with the 84+s and the 89s got the 89 titanium...where is the 86? It is a fairly popular model, and some schools/classes use them...just not as much as the regular 83s and 89s were being used.
The Revolution is here...

I still don't see why people really think the ti-84+ is any better than a ti-83+

Because it's newer... The n00bs don't realize that there's not much to be gained in it (although I wouldn't mind having one becaue 168K just isn't enough for me).

I don't see the draw either. I think the newer ones are pretty ugly. :)

I still love my 83 (and 83+......and 82...)

Well i think they will sit on the 84's for a little bit. People seem to be gobbling them up although they are expensive o_o.

I still perfer my 83+se to any 84. But come on memory, speed, and those crazy crystal timers!

If only the lcd was memory mapped...sigh....

How long do you think ti will stay faithful to the z80 line?

Could be a long time... calculator's don't really need a faster cpu than the z80...

Yeah if they ever bring out a z80 calc with a memory mapped display ... it will instantly become the mother of all calcs! :).

Here's my opinion about calc designs:
TI-81: not very good
TI-81 (newer design): same here
TI-82: same here
TI-82 (1996): nice
TI-82 (19.00006): very cool
TI-83: nice
TI-83 (2000): very cool
TI-83+: nice
TI-83+ Blue Edition: very cool
TI-83+ SE: very cool
TI-84+: PWNZ
TI-84+SE: not very good
TI-85: ugliest ever
TI-86: good, but the 83 is better
TI-89: good
TI-89 t: good, but the old one is better
TI-92: not very good
TI-92+: same here

my reasons for ti-84+se : 1.5 mbs archive memory = I can have TONS of apps(and I do ), clock is not neccesary, USB cable is pretty cool because it transfers MUCH faster, and it is 2x the speed of ti83
Life is getting better.
