The Most Popular Forum

Post by KermMartian »

Just for fun, I wrote up a comparison of the five most popular TI calculator programming community fora, excluding ticalc.org, of course. The results weren't a huge surprise; UnitedTI won in every category except posts per day, in which category Cemetech earned first place. Maxcoderz came in a fairly close third, while Omnimaga lagged behind in fourth and Revsoft brough up the rear in fifth. Check it out, and comment!

I wonder how MaxCoderz would fare if you added up the various old versions of the site that were lost in the various database and hosting problems we had in the past? :)

Dunno, where could I find that data? Does anyone have any idea how many unique user, posts, and topics were lost? On the other hand though, when was the first version started? The additional time might offset the absolute numerical gains in the average columns.

My guess is that MaxCoderz might well get the second place, if not first..
What are those yellow pixels dotted around all over that picture? Or are my eyes getting less good?

Talking about the problems MaxCoderz has had in the past, what about Omnimaga's problems? I think they restarted it sometime in 2006 (I think it was April 23rd), so I wonder how it would fare if we count those old forums in, too.

King Harold: my video card is fried. It's not your eyes.
Delnar: April 2006 indeed - that's a good question
Halifax: Aww :(

Wayback machine might have some info. Im pretty sure we have started from scratch at least twice.

What's with 541 members? Coincidence?
(posts/day)/member(activity):
Omnimaga: 0.2341
Cemetech: 0.1309
MaxCoderz: 0.1182
RevSoft: 0.0691
UTI: 0.0267

UTI has a bunch of inactive members..
No offense, but Cemetech is only so active because kerm_martian is, he made over 1/3rd of the posts

Or more hehe... it doesn't matter... the overview is fun, but numbers don't say much :)

Here's an almost 3-year-old old snapshot, and that's only one of the restarts:

Yeah that tips the scales there. Pretty much a given now since thats only 1 restart.

What about detached solutions, they've been around longer than maxcoderz.

Total number of posts doesn't say much about total activity. What matters is posts and topics per day. In those categories, Cemetech and UTI still 'win'. I'd expect Maxcoderz to score higher there.. the forum was already well known when it just started.

Interesting how UTI trashes everyone in topic per day.

Their average topic-length must be shorter since they don't have twice as many post per day
