What is you opinion about my new intro screen?

I made a new intro screen that will be put in most of my future games. I want everyone's opinion about the screen and maybe some tips on how to make it better. Oh, and no questions about where it came from, please *looks at avatar*...

EDIT: I removed the text altogether and experimented with xLib to produce the second picture.

Wow, that is some really nice work! Great conversion, especially for B&W ... You arent thinking about making Dues Ex are you? That would be sweet :).

*Deus. ;)
What program did you use? ImageStudio? Or is it a handmade job?

Well, I'm really going to make Deus Ex until I learn assembly. Until then, I am working on my secret project, which has nothing to do with Deus Ex.

Here's what I did:
-Open the picture in GIMP
-Cut out the picture so that only half of JC Denton was showing.
-Resize the image so the height was 63 pixels
-Turn the palette into greyscale
-Fool around with the contrast while drawing JC
-Turn the picture of half of JC into a sprite, then put it and it's mirror image in the middle of the screen (used horizontal flip for that).

I like it!

if you're going to put in any text, I think it should look ok to the left and right of his head.

Here's what I would change:

add a little to the glasses, remove sides on bottom lip, give him better shoulders, add slight curves beneath collar bones, and move bottom hairs down one pixel.

Hence I get...

Add in the City, and the forgotten shadow under the lip, and presto, you have Delnar_Ersike in Black and white.

Image

If ever in doubt, let the "mind's eye" do the assuming. Too much detail shows the defects (for instance the bottom lip), in black and white don't be afraid to be ambiguous when you can't really show what you want, then the mind assumes it is there. Your proportions are slightly off (I assume for the calculator screen), however an since they are all equally off they are fine. However, I do think his is horizontally stretched, however every attempt I make in thinning his face, doesn't quite work out.

Heh, it is so amusing when people think it is "Delnar_Ersike". If you've ever played Deus Ex or at least know about it a little, the main character is called JC Denton, so the guy in the picture is JC.

Wow, but the picture with the city really impressed me. If I use it, I'll give credit to you, Homestar.

Thanks.
One thing I really can't get over is how flat the sunglasses make his face look. and how many times I used the word "however"

I've tried a few schemes to break up that defining line of his sunglasses (which paralleling his cheeks and the top pf his head makes him look too boxy)

Here's my best attempt, although I think it makes him look a little over concentrated.

Image

and here's my attempt at breaking up all of the lines, but with the brightness on his face it makes him look like he's a black man looking in a spotlight. Possibly Morpheus?

If you were wanting a more rounded-out version of the shades, I made one. I also fixed his hair to look a bit more realistic.

That city backdrop is very nice Homestar, top job! :).

The glasses do look better now, and he doesnt look like he is concerntrating heavily like what was previously pointed out.

A tidy intro screen for any game :).
