That is a far-out calculator. Nice color scheme.

Thanks. I just finished one of the silver stripes, now for the other and then some touchup work.

*bump* More pix! As you can see, I still need to get the second stripe on the slide case, and I'm missing a few keys...

I finished up some various things this evening, rewired a new switch for the CSA mod into the battery compartment, then completed the tedious process of reassembling the calculator. I managed to get keys from a spare calculator that were actually smaller than the keys from the one I was using, those they do stick or jam on the now slightly-narrowed key aperture walls. Pix below.

This morning I tested the PS/2 port to ensure it was still functioning properly; both keyboards and mice seemed to work fine. I found an old IBM mini PS/2 mouse lying around, sanded it down, and gave it two coats of my dark red glossy paint. Next, I masked off the first of the two silver stripes and painted it. The second stripe shall be added tomorrow. Pix:

For the key lables, I'm considering getting a red and a silver pen and writing in silver on red areas and red on silver areas. I'm also strongly considering varnishing the whole shebang - any suggestions on varnish?

CSA stands for "Color Screen Adapter", which is something of a misnomer. It's a backlight made of calculator-controlled RGB LEDs connected to a PLD acting as a multiplexer. Long story short, multicolor backlight.

Why? Because I can.

And how on earth would you inteface with the thing from the OS? Wouldn't you need a custom OS for this magnitude of a mod, or would the device support normal OS functionality with somewhat of a way to "switch modes"?

I do have to say this looks quite impressive though...

PS: Can I buy one? Jk, jk...
I'm not mad, just a little crazy.

DarkNova - a little side project I run.

Looks pretty sweet, reminds me of when they spray painted their laptops in Hackers :).

Is that enamel paint tho? :X.

Still much better than a faceplate :D (cept fo DA's :P).

Extreme makeover: Calc Edition!

Keep us updated on that repainting. At one point, I was trying to repaint the Calc DBS casing and well...lets just say I'm glad I had backups.

And er...how does a hopeful modder apply the paint?
