ticalc.org goes ads

Post by kv83 »

I wonder whether that will solve the problem or not. Afaik the income of those google ads are rather low... who does click on a google ad anyway? I wonder how long they'll stay.

Google's ad servers are the first thing that go in my hosts file. I find them intrusive and usually irrelevant. I have never clicked on one.

I did, but only because I wanted the one hosting to get a "click"

That's not to say I don't click on ads at all; picture ads don't tend to get mixed in with the text and usually convey more useful information, and I've clicked on a few of those out of genuine interest. :)

Well, according to someone who signed up for google ads to get some income for his clan server, each click gets between a dime to a quarter, depending on how often it is clicked. If they start getting 500 clicks a minute, though, then that means that they will shut down the deal for the reason that they are getting scammed out of money.

I find it funny how people here don't debate whether ads are necessary like they are on ticalc.
We debate as to whether or not they'll make money. :D
I think, therefore iMac

Ads are fine, if they make it possible to keep that great page. However I, and afaik everyone, doubt they will make a difference.

Google ads are evil.
You know your hexadecimal output routine is broken when it displays the character 'G'.

I dont care about google ads. I wont click on them, but if it keeps a site up.. i guess its ok

I used to have google ads. Never got more than 15€.. which sucks if the payout is at 100€

I'm just glad they're discreet. No seisure-inducing colors or dancing hover ads to spoil the fun.

I'm just glad to visit without being told to shoot monkeys or punch out some boxer for an iPod.

If you know how to use google ads well then you can get about a dollar per click. Or you used to be able to anyway. Some of the ads on the front page of unitedti where that much. I've heard that yahoo ads are now better for income generation per click, though, so google ad $/click may have lowered generally.

Still have to be clicked though, and even with googles efforts to generate relevant ads for a page, they don't get clicked much.

I'm willing to bet donation buttons and forum subscriptions (VIP accounts) generate more money.

I think so too. It would generate a lot of money for ticalc.org if they only let you upload screenshots (for example) if you have a "gold" account (which costs about $0.50 a year or something)

Would increase money and decrease bandwith :)
