Terry Pratchett's Hogfather

Post by benryves »

Sky One have commissioned a film adaption of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather for their Christmas lineup from RHI Entertainment.

The only existing film adaptions of Discworld novels I'm aware of are the two Cosgrove Hall animations (Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters); both of which annoyed rather than entertained me.

It certainly boasts an impressive cast, and from what I can glean from the IMDb site it all looks like it's going to be excellent.

Are there many Pratchett readers here? Is anyone else looking forwards to this? :)

I havent read Hogfather, perhaps i should do so before this film comes out?

You are right about it having a decent cast; Marc Warren, David Warner etc. Lets just hope it doesnt turn out to be yet another fouled novel-to-screen attempt. Though i think the English have done pretty well over the years :).

Discworld is one of those things that I find really hard to imagine on screen. I join the hopes for a good adaptation.

The first half was shown last night here - I thought it was very good, given the translation of a Discworld novel to film. It's been (so far) very close to the book, but all you get from the film is the story, and not the parts of the books that make them so good - the wit of the narrator, least of all the footnotes.

The VCR is already set to record tonight's second half in eager anticipation. :)

An awesome book (and all of them are), I can't imagine a movie version though.
