I've made some progress today, the python script that converts the level xml file to .83p & .8xp now creates working .8xp files too (fixed a minor bug). I will begin converting the beta level into the new xml format tomorrow. The beta is hopefully ready within a week or two
I also might release the level converter together with the beta. Right now I use Graphics Studio to create the tiles and tilemaps, then cut & paste the data into the xml file and then add things like scripts and unit status. It works quite well and I'll probably create all levels this way.

Oh thanks . I'll have to check it outxlibman wrote:That look very awesome, I saw this earlier and immediately added it in my featured project section here (at bottom)

Some updates
30-40% of the beta level is complete, just have to fix the scripts & balancing and it should be ready. It will just take a few more days...
And while you wait, two new screenshots:
I will post more screenshot as soon as I have some scripts ready
The beta level will have nothing to do with the campaign released together with the final product, it's a stand-alone map/scenario

Well not really like Joltima, the black areas are places you have visited (is enough to visit a place once to see it).xlibman wrote:pretty cool, does the black areas are what u cant see from where u stand? That would reminds me Joltima
Well those screenshots are probably not the best... it's easier to see what's what when you really play the game.necro wrote:some of the sprites are hard to distingish, other than that...looks good
I will post more screenshots tomorrow (or later today if possible

Some more screenshots, you may see those as "bonus screenshots" since I'm probably going to post some more tomorrow (maybe animated if there is enough stuff to show
The picture to the left is just there for fun, I just realized that I had forgot to remove some early test scripts from the map
In the middle one, the knight (inverted since he has the cursor on top of him) and a rogue attacks 2 skeleton warriors.
And in the rightmost one my ranger is investigating a magic barrier that hinders the heroes to continue their journey
I also added another event, it's now possible to use registers to set the position of pictures (a lot easier to reuse pictures & animations now).
I will release more beta levels later on since the Dragon Song campaign probably takes half a year or more to complete. It will be huge, it has probably the largest tileset in any calculator game, close to 1000 8x8 tiles (56 tiles/level and around 18 levels), and thats only the tiles... add pictures and tons of other stuff and you probably get the idea
But it's really fun to make scripts and there is nearly endless of possibilities of what you can do
I will also release the source code for the beta level later on together with information of how to make levels (and the tools I use as said earlier).
