Katrina Total destruction
I'm just flabergasted over the amount fo destruction on the Mississippi Gulfcoast!
Here is some footage:
Downtown Gulport and Biloxi Mississippi
From what I hear is, my dad lost his house, they can't find one of my uncles he lives just west of gulfport right on the beach. New Orleans is 80 percent underwater. Just the whole MS gulfcoast is just totally destroyed. Huge three story casinos that are built on barges and sit in the port are litterally hundreds of feet inland. All of highway 90 which follows the beach has had the road bed washed out from underneath the road. There are a reported 100 people are dead on the coast. Not to mention the deaths in New Orleans. It just looks like a complete war zone.
I haven't been able to contact any of my family except my sister that stay through the hurricane. It is worst than hurricane camille back in the early 60s, Andrew in the mid 80s. Very sad, and will takes months to even partly clean up the coast.

well thats good to hear, watching the news right now and with the looting its making Louisiana look bad/trashy......mnc2fan wrote:Same to you kalan
Well most of my family has been located now so some good news.
Also a point that has been coming into my mind is about the tsunami, how the U.S. helped/provided things/money for the ones in need, but now this time around when we are in need (in the u.s. i believe we will be fine) the only country showing support is Germany (to my knowledge). I know that when we helped them others were saying how "little" we were helping.....but others who were saying that were wrong. Just for the planes we provided for search and rescue, the fuel cost for one day alone was in the millions ( im unsure of the exact amount). I guess what im rambleing about is that they most likely wont help us, but they could at least offer help .
Yeah, I remember all the school fund raisers they had from Andrew. They went on for maybe 2 years if I remember right. It's hard to guage which storm was worse. At least with Andrew, the damage was mostly over when the storm left. Now the Army news services is anticipating 100% flooding and there are still people trapped in the area. It's incomprehensible. I've got an older cousin who just moved there and was luckily off duty and evacuating when the first warnings came in.
I don't know if this would help or not, but if kalan_vod or anyone else is still missing relatives, PM or email me and I'll see if I can pick up any radio traffic out of that region on our university HAM station. It's a longshot, but I'll see what I can do.

Yeah the events are horrific. I had never realized hurricanes could do damage on such a large scale. My country can praise itself lucky for not having to medal with hurricanes. Good strenght to all those who have missing relatives or are in any way affected by the hurricane.
