Met Author of TI 82/83/84/85/86 Operating System

Post by threefingeredguy »

For those of you who don't know, Pat Milheron wrote the OS's for z80 TI calcs. And his son is in one of my classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked him that if I gave him a list of questions, would he answer it? And Mikey Milheron said his dad would answer it. So think of any question you have, any question at all. Michael_V has suggested that we ask if they had bets about whether people would reverse engineer the USB port like when they bet on whether people would figure out how to run assembly programs on the TI-85. Others have said we should ask about the undocumented rom calls / ports so we can add on to WikiTI. Not all questions can be submitted, especially if others already know the answers, but this is a great opportunity to unravel some of the mysteries of the z80 calculators.

I am also gonna ask him to get on #tcpa and #wikiti so we can ask talk to him in real time.

I'm sure a LOT of stuff would be covered by NDA's (non-disclosure agreements), so don't expect much...

Couldnt hurt to ask and I dont see why they would but NDA's on a calculator. Just give it a try.

Ask him if they ever thought that game making for the calc would ever get this big?

NOT PORTS!!! I'm having to much fun figuring those out, don't spoil it for me.

I can't really think of anything that I want him to answer that not covered by some type non disclosure.

I guess more enough on the usb for whatever Dan and everyone has figured out.

Ask him why he didn't make TI-BASIC better :D Joking. Hmm, I don't know anything I'd want to ask atm.

Why would there me NDA's on anything like this? If it was missles or secret government electronics, sure there'd be, but not on this.

NDA's are specically for the government. You cant just go and give every last detail aobut the OS to everyone ... They are in place to protect a business from it competitors mainly, that and IP theft.

Only 1 guy wrote the OS for these calcs ... not a bad effort :).

Ask him how long it took to write that OS :) My guess is "not very long" because some things seem pretty thrown together... maybe you should ask instead if he got payed per hour or for delivering up the entire system :P

His son doesn't program, I asked him. And he also seemed proud (he told me his dad was the man w/out any hesitation) but also embarrassed (he acted like his dad was wierd).
