It'd be nice if you compiled a Venus version and provided the data in 83p files as well. Also, I'd like to have a CD-quality (yes, 44.1KHz, 16-bit, stereo) WAV (no lossy encoding!) recording of the sound from the real calc, then I would have a chance to do something about PTI.

A little far fetched, but maybe some one who knows what they are doing and find a way to program the calc to act as if it has dual z80's :? :? Sounds possible, but then again it would still hang up the 99.99% of the power of the z80!

Nevermind forget that idea...

Well if you drop the 16 bit and the stereo, it's possible. But wav sound takes up to much mem.

But if you really need the stereo, just get 2 calculators. :P

I think he means that he wants someone to play music on the calc and record it for him to use as a reference ... ?

Exactly. A recording of the analog signal that forms in the link port during playback, i. e. the actual, physical sound. I won't even try to imagine how Jim could interpret my post the way he did. ;)

About the calculated note values - part of the Physics GCSE Exam (General Certificate of Secondary Education, taken by 15-year-olds in the UK) covers standing waves and resonance - and the harmonic directly above a frequency is one octave up and (due to the physical properties of waves) half the period. In short - it's a logarithmic scale, which is why you should stick to low octaves where the periods are quite different between semitones (unlike the highest octaves where half of the notes have a period of "1" and the other half "2").

CoBB - I'd be glad to send you the file, but not over this 700 bits-per-second line (which would also explain the typos in my posts - this keyboard is crap and editing a post is a right pain!) If I did, would a format like lossless WMA be fine or would you rather have it just in plain PCM WAV?

Also: regarding the 8XP files only, I have noticed that if you send files to VTI in 83 mode (and you send 8XP files) it offsets the file in memory by ~2 bytes. I had assumed that file transfer software was intelligent enough to understand the formats and just send the actual data... Sorry about that! I have never used Venus, either.

One thing I am doing is trying to get more songs for the player (which is hardly an enthralling job). There's a spelling mistake fix ("Taoplan" to "Toaplan" - the MIDI file I used had the wrong name in it) but only one more song (Sousa's "Liberty Bell March") as I've been too busy to do many more.

I went to Maplin and bought 2 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo minijack adapters. If they're anything like the ones others have, they don't fit in the port (that lip on the top edge of the calc blocks them). A pencil sharpener is the best bet!

Jim e - sorry, I thought it was your project, but didn't have the time to check.

Don't send me anything directly, I can't receive files of such size. Just a link. And yes, I'd like it to be a wav file. You don't have to upload full songs, just some seconds (preferably from the beginning). Making the Venus executable isn't that important, I forgot that I can use its explorer to load ION programs.

I couldnt get the mirage version that you had in the zip that you posted here to work on my 84+ SE...is the one that you released on ticalc.org updated, or just basically what you posted here? I should try the ION version too...

It's a new version - hang on, let me check.
*downloads from ticalc.org, sends to calculator*

No, both Ion and MirageOS versions work fine for me on my TI-83 Plus.

After running Xlib command shutdown from mirage, and temporarily screwing up my calc, I managed to get an adapter plug for my calc.

The sound is awsome, really clear! I'm really suprised of the quality, I personally believe it sounds beter than the original nintendo!

That would be even more awsome if some one would implement that into a game!!

The routines for playing the sound tones are in the file quad.inc. Some tweaking would be required (for example, ripping out the key checking code).

I don't think a regular black 83+ will get in-game music like this. Looking at Jim e's 83+SE work, maybe he can do something (I don't have an 83+SE myself). I don't know. The routines are there, however!
