Important: New registrations enabled again (UPDATED)
Hello everyone.
Due to the recent sign-up of spammers we decided to enable the "account activation by admin"-feature. However, there are so many spammers signing up that our mail-accounts are flooded with a lot of mails. Therefor we decided to disable registration for new accounts.
We'll switch it back once we have a suitable solution to prevent spammers from posting. This will most likely be a mod which will check the few first posts on certain keywords.
Thanks for the patience.

Update 09/06/2009: We upgraded the board to the newest version of phpbb. The new version changed some things with the captcha which was apparently easily 'hacked' by people. We hope spammers won't be able to register anymore now. We'll keep an eye on it and take steps if neccesary. Thanks again for your patience.

Re: Important: New registrations enabled again (UPDATED)
We've been getting a lot of forum spam again recently, so I've set registrations to be admin-approved for the time being (there's very little activity here so I don't think people will notice, but I'm getting fed up with the number of spammers).
All we need to do is run new registrations through Stop Forum Spam to cull the overwhelming majority of them (or just block @gmail.com, which is where all of them are coming from ). I wrote a PHP class to check the database some time ago if you (that is, somebody with FTP access) would be interested in it.

Quite busy right now, so not sure when I get around to do that... if you want i can send you the login-stuff. I trust you
(P.S.: So that's why I was suddenly spammed by account-creation-mails )

Sorry, I'm not sure how I missed you posting here - I thought that making registrations administrator-approved might get your attention, sorry.
It looks like the majority of the spammers were registering from a single IP address, and since blocking that I haven't had any further emails.

That's funny how that works. How is the spam coming along btw?

We're still getting a couple a day or so. Nearly all of them are listed on Stop Forum Spam, but it's still a pain to have to log in and delete them.

Re: Important: New registrations enabled again (UPDATED)
Due to a glut of spammers and not very much activity registration had been disabled. I have now re-enabled it, and also removed the username check when checking for known spammers on Stop Forum Spam as this was causing problems for one member.
