I think this competition might be a good way to solve a lot of commonly discussed problems around here, especially if there's a prize to win
What about taking a funny little computational exercise I had recently: You get a set of 10 points with 3 coordinates each. Determine if the points form a circle, and if so, give the middle and the radius of the circle.
For a more "fun" competition, maybe something like a runtime interactive physics demo with lots of balls bouncing around or some kind of CFD demo with water.
