Wow, this is great! I assume you split the diagonal movement into (X_movement -> collision_check) -> (Y_movement -> Y_collision_check). It made things much simpler in the Mario engine when Joe hinted me about this :)
Besides, cant you just skip the opening-seeking collision in case of diagonal movement? I think it doesnt really matter gameplay-wise.

Spencer, I've got one question, how is the gameplay speed? When I played Sam Heald's demo, it seemed as if Link moved way too slow for how big he was on screen, compared to the Gameboy games. Thanks,
