Its amazing what some people can do when they are bored :).

They're all the same character, he's just wearing different clothing/armor (in one he's bald).

The bottom-left one is bald. :P

As for importance, maybe in the future but definitely not now; I've got a job as a pixel artist, the pixel art lessons, tankies, DDR, and finishing up senilym: owt's 6mhz version before I do anything new, so nope...

Okay, the first thing I'm going to do in lesson 4 is explain how to convert a larger colored sprite into a small 2-4 color sprite. Then apply shading, with limited size, and explain some problems you can (and will) come across with so few colors.

Only problem is I don't have a good example that I can work anew with, sooooooo if someone wants to give some suggestions (preferrably NES sprites or similar, nothing too big or complicated) that'd be great. *awaits*

How 'bout something less common, that no one really knows about?

Edit: Either way, how's this?: Image
It might not look too much like a goomba, but with only two colors there are a *lot* of limits concerning shape, size, and look. Which I'll cover in Lesson 4. And unlike the previous lessons, I'm not going to be very direct with the images, they'll be repetitious and hack-like because that's what making b&w sprites is all about, fighting the restrictions. It's a cruel world in the b&w universe

How's this for 4-level grayscale power:

Image

Inspired by a larger picture i found somewhere, i copied some off it and made some other parts up ... but it is just an image i use to test grayscale routines with.

Well I can't really get you example sprites, but... How about Edward, Alphonse, Mustang, and Armstrong (sample pictures here and here)? Like Jim e said, no reason Image Actually, tr1p made a couple sprites a month ago or so... But 16x16 just isn't big enough for these ones. Image Image Image So much for keeping it a secret from those who didn't look.
