need help with geometry

Post by lecks »

i got out of algebra making straight 100%s and when i went to geometry i started making bad grades like C's and D's. its killing my GPA right now i have a 2.9 thanks to it and im gonna get kicked out of International Baccaleauleate if i dont step up. so do yall know any good geometry websites? please i really need your help.

What are you having problems with, exactly? I only sucked at proofs, everything else was just algebra.

Geometry doesn't come easy to anyone. Once you think you have it figured out, there's analytic proofs, angle chasing, ceva's theorem, directed ratios, nine point circles, cyclic quadrilaterals, and isogonal conjugates. :x :x

im perfect at the algebra part of geometry, but when i gotta describe shapes and prove congruence and find angles and stuff, i seriously do as best as i can and i completely think im correct, but when i turn the test in to the teacher and go to her website, i see that i got 71% on her test. all the time. among my friends i have a reputation as being the math and science kid. dont wanna spoil a good reputation, you know?

Yeah, see those are proofs. I get them now, after some creative problem solving through-out trig, but I didn't get them when I was in geometry. My advice is practice.

it's just showing steps.... which is a pain, luckily (or not) I'm on algebra 2

why don't you scan one of the problems so we know how to help?

I've got a nice one. It's not really a proof, but it's related.

Let ABCD be a square. Somewhere within ABCD there is a point P, and in the middle of CD lies point E. Now AP=BP=EP=10. Calculate the surface of the square.

I still haven't solved this one... I'm sure it must be something really simple, but I don't see it :)

What do you mean by middle of CD? like E bisects CD?

It sounds like the lengths of 10 are angle bisectors of an equilateral triangle that shares a side with AB.

I think so. I've never discussed math in English before ;)
Anyway, what I mean is just that; it's in the middle of those two :P

i dont think i can solve it unless i know exactly where p is.. or maybe i gotta find out where p is by examining AP=BP+EP+10

that says AP=10, BP=10, EP=10
since we already know three of the side lenghts are 10, and surface area is the sum of all the faces' areas, and since there is only one face, then area= length times width, so the surface area is 100 units squared. unless this "square" is actually a cube.

I hope this clarifies things:

|AP| = |BP| = |EP| = 10

That was a fun problem! Here is how i solved it.
However, I didn't use proofs or anything because i hated proofs and forgot most of them.

Wow, well done :)

(I guess I was too lazy to make the equation :))
