I was just thinking about possible engines for this. Would acelgoyobis work? It can scroll up and down, and its very fast. Also, the ball can hit bouncers, and can collect items by running over them. Would it be able to do 8 way scrolling, by any chance? Would it be able to also incorporate enemies also?
CoBB? Any insights?

Looking back at the posts, I think that 4 by 4 is too small. I don't think you could make the enimies recognizable. So, that neccessitates scrolling. As I said, Acelgoyobis might work, but it currently only supports up and down scrolling.
How about that new mario game that wasn't finished? That can scroll in all directions, right?
I'll have to download it and try it out.

No, the new one that was worked on here. It wasn't finished. It supported up and down scrolling, I believe.

Does that sonic engine being worked on over at UTI use 8x8 sprites? It seems that it would be the closest thing to ngame.
